Birthday at the Zoo

We took Lucas to the zoo for his birthday. He loved seeing all the animals but he was exhausted by the time we were done. We laid the chair back in his stroller and he just rested through the last of it. I think he was asleep by the time I started backing out of the parking lot!

Checking out the ducks

He was really interested in this rooster but right after this picture, it jumped down and scared him pretty bad.

King of the Jungle (or the house anyway)

Checking out the tigers. They were sleeping right by the wall.

Lucas’ First Birthday!

Opening his first present! He actually did pretty good with it once we tore it a little for him. But once that present was open, he just wanted to play with the toy instead of open the rest.

We took Lucas to the zoo for his birthday and he loved seeing all the animals. I’ll post those pictures, as well as him eating his birthday cake later.

Walking Videos

Below is a video we took of Lucas when he was first starting to take some steps. He is more interested in getting the camera though than actually walking!

Here is a more recent video of him walking. He is doing a lot better then the first video, even though it is probably only a week apart. And he is doing even better today. He refuses to crawl anymore. He will walk, then fall, then immediately get back up and walk away.

Sleeping, Walking, & Teeth!

I figured it was time for a quick update. Lucas is sleeping a lot better at night now. He goes to sleep on his own and usually sleeps through the entire night. He was getting up at about 5:30 or 6, but now sleeps in a little later, sometimes as late as 8.

The downside is he is still not sleeping well for naps. He won’t usually go to sleep on his own, and about half the time he won’t take an afternoon nap. It’s pretty frustrating and we’ve tried everything we can think of, but if anyone has any suggestions, we would love to hear them.
But on a happier note, Luke took his first steps on Sunday, June 14th. Since then he has progressed amazingly! He stands up on his own and just starts walking away. Sometimes he only can take a few steps before falling; other times he walks across the whole room. It usually just depends on if he has something he is focused on getting. I’ll have to try and record it and post a video up here.
Also, he has gotten more teeth in, which we are happy about. He has at least two more teeth on the bottom and two more on the top, which gives him a total of 8 teeth (that we know of anyways). These last teeth didn’t seem to give him any problem, since we didn’t even know about them until just recently!
But that’s about all that’s been going on in our lives. I’ll try and get some more videos and pictures up soon.

Update

Well I figured it is time to have a few updates on life around the Kotter household. We are doing good, all in all. Kryssi is working (unfortunately a little more than she wants). Lucas is getting bigger and bigger by the day. He now has two bottom teeth and two top teeth. He has been really slobbery lately so we think he must be getting another tooth.

We finally got him to start sleeping better. It took a lot of crying on his part and self-control on our part, but he now goes to sleep on his own, at night anyway. Naps are still a struggle, but we are just grateful he is sleeping better at night. The one downside, he now gets up every morning at about 6. That’s a little too early for us, but at least he doesn’t get up during the night!
He took his first step the other day, or according to Kryssi he did. It was just a little step and then he fell, but it’s a start. He stands up all the time, and he can stay standing without holding on to anything. So I think it is just a matter of time before he figures out the whole walking thing.

I got accepted into EITC. I will be starting school in the Fall, about August 24th or so I think. I am going to be doing the Web Development Technology program, which should be fun. I have taken some online classes dealing with web design, and I have loved it. I’m actually close to having a site up and running that I designed from the ground up, which is pretty exciting.

Messy face after eating some food. He occasionally makes it pretty hard to feed him, by knocking the spoon or turning his head. It then turns into this, his face covered in food.

All washed up and hair slicked back!

Mesa Falls/Memorial Day

We went up to Mesa Falls with our family on Memorial Day. The weather was great, which made us happy, and we had a great time. Lucas didn’t take his normal nap so he was pretty grouchy, but as long as he had someone entertaining him, he was okay.

Haircut!

Lucas’ hair was getting pretty long so last weekend, Grandma Kotter gave him a haircut. He doesn’t like getting his hair combed, if you can’t tell!

Such a handsome boy!

His hair isn’t so much in his eyes or over his ears anymore.
