San Francisco Trip
Kryssi and I got the chance to go to San Francisco over the last few days, for work. I had a work conference on Saturday as well as just a team meet-up, since we all work remotely. We left the kids with their grandparents and successfully made it on our own. We flew into the Oakland airport and then had to make our way to the San Francisco airport, where there was a shuttle to our hotel. The two airports aren’t that far apart, probably 30 minutes if you drove. But we didn’t want to pay for a cab so we just took the BART (public transit). The flight their took about an 1 hour 30 minutes. Getting to our hotel took about 2 hours 30 minutes. So it was a long day.
It was a lot of fun meeting all my coworkers for the first time. Saturday we all went to a conference that lasted most of the day. Kryssi thought she’d end up just staying at the hotel by herself but some of the significant others of those I work with got together and did some sightseeing. So she got to go do some stuff on Saturday (which was also her birthday) so that was great.
Sunday we went and did some sightseeing on our own. We didn’t have much time, since we had dinner plans with my company that night, so we didn’t get to see a lot. I really wanted to get to the Golden Gate Bridge, but we ran out of time. We went to Pier 39, got to see the sea lions and watched a short show. We then walked up to Fisherman’s Wharf and looked around the shops there (and went to the wax musuem). We also went to Ghirardelli Square and got some chocolate.
We then flew home Monday morning. So it was a short trip but fun (and exhausting). We truly gained an appreciation for where we live, with the ability to drive anywhere we need to go, instead of spending all day on public transit.
Lucas Turns 4!
Lucas turned 4 on July 14th. We can’t believe we have a four-year old! He had a pirate themed party with some of his friends the day before, and then we did a family party actually on his birthday. He got more presents then he needed, but his favorite was the bike we got him. We looked for awhile and were debating on if we should get him a bike, then we ran across a balance bike on craigslist that was pretty cheap. We weren’t sure he’d like it since it’s different then a normal bike, but so far he’s loved it and it’s really helping him learn to balance on his own.

Swimming Pool
So the kids (and Kryssi) have been begging me to get a swimming pool. Lucas has never really liked playing in the water, so I didn’t think it would be used much if we bought one. But it’s been pretty hot lately so yesterday we went and got a cheap inflatable pool from WalMart.

I filled it up with water from the hose, and it was freezing water. I stood in there for a few minutes and I swear my feet started going numb they were so cold. But the kids loved it. I had to make McKinley get out every once in a while because I was afraid she was going to get frostbite on her feet. But she is definitely not like her brother. She loved playing in the water and Lucas never has, until this year. The pool is not big enough to do much in, but they love playing with the water squirters we got at the dollar store and just splashing around. So hopefully we have enough warm weather this summer to make use of it, but it seems I was wrong once again (not that I mind being wrong on something that will entertain the kids all summer).
