Christmas 2013

We had a great Christmas this year, other then the fact we had some sickness move (and still moving) through our house.  McKinley wasn’t feeling the best on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.  She actually went back to sleep at like 9 am, so I ended up staying with her while Kryssi went and visited family.  William got a cold and has had a hard time sleeping, so that’s been fun.  And then I ended up getting shingles, which I didn’t think someone my age could even get but it’s not something I ever want to experience again.

But in spite of all that, we had a great time.  The kids were happy with everything they got and we had lots of fun with family.

Neighbor gifts

Last Sunday we made some cookies and brought some plates around to some of our neighbors.  We love our neighborhood and even though we don’t know our neighbors too well yet, we wanted to share the Christmas spirit.

Growing up, I remember most years going out with my dad and delivering plates of goodies to people.  I usually had to dress up as an elf and we had to sing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, which I didn’t force any of my kids to do that, at least not this year…

Snow

We got our first big snow storm of the season this weekend.  We woke up Saturday morning to about 3 inches of snow on the ground.  I decided I might have to look for a snow blower, as our driveway is a lot bigger then our old one.

Lucas had fun playing in the snow and making a snowman.  McKinley really wanted to, but she’s been sick the last few weeks, so we didn’t want her out in the cold.  She’s on her second round of antibiotics, so we’re hoping she gets better soon.

Raking leaves

We had some really nice weather this weekend, so we took advantage of it by raking some leaves!  We don’t have many trees at our new place, which we were sad about but at the same time, I thought it would be nice not to have to rake leaves.  Well unfortunately that didn’t happen.  One of the houses down our street has a few huge trees out front and all the leaves they lost blew into the surrounding yards, including ours.  So I still ended up getting to rake leaves, but it was okay, I’ll take the nice weather if it means I have to do a little work.

Carving pumpkins

We carved our pumpkins this past Monday for FHE.  The kids were really looking forward to it, though Lucas didn’t want to have to clean out the pumpkin guts.  He would touch one seed and then have to go wash his hands.  William was already asleep, so he didn’t get to participate, but maybe next year.  But they turned out really nice.

McKinley wasn't sure about cleaning out the pumpkin but once she tried it, she was a good helper.
