Work started on the septic system (getting the septic tank in place) and work started on getting the basement framed out.

Concrete slab poured in the basement and garage:

First partial wall up in the garage, to start work on electrical hookup:

More and more loads of gravel and dirt:

Foundation walls finished and in-ground plumbing installed:

Getting footings poured and foundation walls prepared and poured:

Getting our well dug, continuing to dig out the foundation and starting work bringing in gravel for our garage and driveway:

Getting the foundation dug:

We weren’t able to get nearly as deep as we wanted, so we’ll need to bring in lots of dirt and lots of gravel to raise everything up around the house.
I want to document the process of our house being built, mostly for me to look back on later. Feel free to ignore these posts but I am going to try and post anytime something changes. It took us quite a bit of effort to get here but we are finally ready to get this started!
Land we are building on:

So we decided recently to get a few chickens. The idea was to start small and maybe grow it in the future. Thought process behind it was to take advantage of all the open land we have out here and use that land to actually produce some things.
We also bought a cow but that is currently pastured at Kryssi’s parents and will stay there. In the (potentially near) future, talked about getting bees next and maybe a pig or two (Kryssi’s sister and brother-in-law raise pigs) but we’ll see where things go.

Our cat was also pregnant and we came home from a baby blessing a few weeks ago to her having kittens right outside the back door. It was an exciting time for the kids and we were a little worried that everything would go okay, but she has been a great mom. So currently we have 4 little kittens, though I’ve already told the kids (and Kryssi) that we aren’t keeping them all.
